A grandmother was alive on Tuesday. A mother was alive on Tuesday. A two-week-old baby boy was alive on Tuesday. By Thursday afternoon, all three were dead on the floor of a single home in Modesto, California. One man. One knife. Three generations of the same family. The man had been deported once. He came back. He was arrested for his fourth DUI a year ago. ICE asked the state to hold him. The state said no. The sheriff later said the detainer was for “just a DUI.” A two-week-old infant was knifed to death because a fourth drunk-driving arrest by a deported foreign national was treated as just.
