American mothers don’t ask how you’re feeling. They ask “Did you eat?” They ask “Are you sleeping enough?” They ask “Is it cold there? Do you have a coat?” Where I come from, we would call that a prayer. She has been saying “I love you” your entire life. You only had to learn her words.
