I was just eating at my usual ramen spot when the guy next to me accidentally turned dinner into a full-blown adventure 😂
A white guy walks in, looks a little nervous, and orders a ramen.
Staff asks, “Spicy okay?”
He nods and says, “Yes! Spicy OK!”
Then the staff follows up super fast in Japanese:
“In that case, do you want the boosted spicy version? It comes with two seasoned eggs, a big bowl of rice, a paper apron so you don’t get messy, and a big spoon for all the broth. Sound good?”
The guy just… freezes.
You could see the panic in his eyes.
He clearly had no idea what was just said.
After a second, he gives this awkward smile and throws up a big thumbs-up. 👍
The staff takes it as “Hell yeah, let’s do it!” and sends the order flying.
A few minutes later, this absolute monster of a tray arrives:
Nuclear-red spicy ramen, two ajitama eggs, a mountain of rice, a paper bib, and a giant soup spoon.
His face went from “I got this” to “What have I done” in about two seconds.
Sweat started pouring. He was fighting for his life.
And right beside him, this sweet old Japanese man just smiles and gives him a thumbs-up like, “You got this, kid.”
The whole shop was quietly rooting for him. It was hilarious… but also weirdly wholesome.
Moral of the story: Never thumbs-up something in Japan unless you’re 100% sure what you just agreed to. 😂
