In America, “How are you?” is just a hello.
You say “good!” and keep walking.
Nobody actually wants the answer.
But in Japan, if someone asks “genki?”,
they mean it. So you tell them.
Your health. Your family. Your back pain.
So when the American asked me,
I began to explain everything...
and they had already walked away.
Was it a greeting? A trap?
I am still standing here, America.
Please. Explain.
