People say Japan should become “more normal.”
More global.
More efficient.
More like everywhere else.
But here’s the problem.
“Everywhere else” did not create anime culture.
A country where train stations play seasonal melodies did.
A country where 1,000-year-old festivals still shut down entire cities did.
A country where a single animator can spend 3 days drawing 4 seconds of emotion did.
That is the part people miss.
The world did not fall in love with Japan because it was normal.
The world fell in love with Japan because it refused to become everyone else.
