Off-Duty NYPD Detective Jose Mercedes Stabbed in the Bronx
They put a knife in a New York detective. Her office aimed at ICE.
Summary
- The New York Post reported on Oct. 11 that off-duty NYPD Detective Jose Mercedes was stabbed during a daytime robbery in the Bronx on Oct. 2 and has since left the hospital.
- DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said on Fox News that Mercedes was stabbed seven times, and that Hochul and other officials said nothing. He named suspects Dangelo Rafael Jean Caraballo and Sneider Mejia Bautista and said both should already have been deported. That immigration claim is Mullin's.
- Hochul's office told the Post she respects the NYPD, will not politicize the Oct. 2 attack, is putting record money into law enforcement, and is also protecting New Yorkers from what the spokesman called rogue ICE agents.
- Mullin contrasted that silence with the protests and official statements after ICE shot Oscar Belgal in the Bronx on Oct. 8.
Commentary
Jose Mercedes is a New York detective. On Oct. 2, off duty, he was stabbed in the Bronx. Secretary Mullin says it was seven times, and that the two suspects should already have been deported.
Her office said it respects the police, then spent its fire on what it calls rogue ICE agents. A cop was bleeding on a sidewalk. The anger went to the officers who are supposed to catch men like that.
Comments
Jose Mercedes left the hospital. The podium was about ICE. That is backwards.
Seven times is what Mullin said. A cop was stabbed in daylight. Start there.
Off duty means he was a person on a sidewalk. He still wears our badge.
Do not politicize the stabbing, then spend the statement attacking ICE. Name the cop.
I see the stitches. I do not see the governor at his bed.
Respect is a press release. The deportation he says was skipped is the sentence I want.
