Exclusive — Interior Sec. Burgum Requests Changes to Smithsonian After Trump Admin Discovers DEI in Museums
A billion-dollar attic. The secretary put DEI at the center. Burgum just sent the letter.
Summary
- Breitbart reports Interior Secretary Doug Burgum sent a Friday letter to the Smithsonian Board of Regents executing Trump's Restoring Trust in the Smithsonian Institution order after a White House review found exhibits that dwell on oppression over American achievement.
- The publicly funded system has run over $1 billion a year. The White House proposed an 11 percent cut to $961.3 million for fiscal 2027, the lowest taxpayer draw since 2020.
- Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch III made more than $4.4 million in salary and benefits from 2020 to 2024 and has said DEI must be at the center of the institution.
- Trump wrote that museums across Washington are the last remaining woke segment and instructed attorneys to run the same cleanup already underway at colleges.
Commentary
A father still walks his boy past a fighter plane on a Saturday and wants the plaque to name the crew, not a seminar. He does not get a refund if the hall recites how horrible the country is.
That is the gap. A billion-dollar draw. $4.4 million for one secretary. DEI at the center by the man's own line. The honest dad already paid the marble. The exhibit paid him a lecture.
Look every parent who still takes a kid to that castle on the Mall: if the attic cannot praise a win, who still owns the inheritance?
Comments
DEI at the center is a mission statement. Change the mission or change the draw.
I walked those halls in a dress uniform. A plaque that only recites shame is a second defeat.
Federal money, federal order. Burgum's Friday letter is the statute showing up.
Allied museums still hang a victory without a disclaimer. Copy the adulthood.
$961.3 million, 11 percent, $4.4 million, Restoring Trust. Those are the nouns.
My overtime bought that marble. I did not buy a sermon about how broken I am.
A kid should leave that castle wanting to build, not apologize for being born here.
A capital that cannot tell its own win will not fund the next ship. Start with the plaque.
Breitbart printed Burgum, $1 billion, $961.3 million, $4.4 million, and Bunch's DEI line. Argue those nouns.
Cut the lecture. Keep the crew names. A museum is not a struggle session.
