ICE officer charged in Minneapolis shooting released in Texas after judge declines to intervene

6:59 a.m. Cameron County. A Minnesota prosecutor wanted the badge back in a cage.

Summary

  • Fox News reports ICE officer Christian Castro was released from a Texas jail at 6:59 a.m. Thursday after U.S. District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. on Wednesday denied a temporary restraining order that would have blocked the release and forced Gov. Greg Abbott to send him to Minnesota.
  • Cameron County Sheriff Manuel Trevino confirmed the time to Fox. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty charged Castro in May with four counts of second-degree assault and one count of falsely reporting a crime.
  • Moriarty says Castro fired at a front door, hit Julio Sosa-Celis in the leg, and that the bullet lodged in a child's bedroom wall. Castro was already in Texas when Minnesota issued a nationwide warrant.
  • Minnesota has pressed Texas for extradition. A federal judge last week had already cleared a path for Castro to leave Texas custody. DHS has called the case a political stunt against an ICE badge.

Commentary

A border agent's wife still sits in a vinyl waiting chair with a thermos and dry lips and wants the badge to mean the same thing in Minneapolis as it does in Brownsville. She does not get a trophy if a prosecutor turns a service round into a roadshow.

That is the gap. 6:59 a.m. A denied TRO. Four assault counts from a county that already treats ICE like a prop. The honest dad already paid for both the jail and the federal agent. Only one of them got a nationwide warrant.

Look every officer who still wears that badge in the eye: if a blue-city docket can hunt an ICE gun across state lines, who still owns the next door?

6:59 a.m. is a time stamp. A TRO denied is a ruling. Keep both. Stop the roadshow.

I fired a service weapon under a policy. A prosecutor who campaigns on the hole in the wall is not a jury.

u/rule_first · 4h

Extradition is a process. A federal judge already twice declined to cage him for Moriarty. Read the orders.

Allied capitals do not let a city DA treat a national officer like a trophy. Copy the spine.

Four assault two, one false report, child's wall, Cameron County, Rodriguez. File those nouns.

I still punch a clock that can get me fired for a missed lock. They want a badge in a cage for a split-second.

Abbott should not be a delivery service for a Hennepin presser. Texas already answered.

Cartels watch which counties hunt the badge. A release in Brownsville is a signal. Keep it.

u/press_clip · 30m

Fox printed 6:59 a.m., Rodriguez, Moriarty, four counts, and Cameron County. Argue those nouns.

Honor the order. Defend the badge. A political docket is not a conviction.
