Illegal immigrant's over-the-top sexual assault on elderly woman sends sheriff into rage

Four in the morning. A 77-year-old bedroom. A 24-year-old who should never have been in the county.

Summary

  • Fox News reports Polk County, Florida, Sheriff Grady Judd said 24-year-old Honduran illegal immigrant Axel Antonio Espinal Herrera broke into a home and committed a vicious sexual battery on a 77-year-old woman.
  • The sheriff's office said the assault happened around 4 a.m. Saturday. The victim woke to a stranger in her bedroom, was stripped and battered, slapped when she tried to flee, then dragged back inside and choked after she reached the front door.
  • Detectives canvassed the neighborhood and found Herrera in a nearby home with two other illegal immigrants also from Honduras. Judd said the crime could not have occurred if Herrera were not in the country.
  • Judd promised his office's goal is a U.S. prison sentence for the rest of Herrera's life upon conviction, calling it one of the most horrific crimes the county has seen in a very long time.

Commentary

A night nurse still tapes a split cuticle and locks a chain that should not be the last line between a grandmother and a hallway. She did not pay property tax so a stranger could own 4 a.m.

That is the gap. Twenty-four. Seventy-seven. Four in the morning. The honest daughter already paid the deadbolt. The unlocked line paid the bedroom.

Ask every working mother who still checks a porch light twice: if a 77-year-old can be dragged back from her own front door, who still owns the house?

Four a.m. and a 24-year-old who should have been on a plane. Judd is not raging. He is counting.

I stacked sandbags so a grandma would not need a deadbolt as a rifle. Hold the man.

Sexual battery, home invasion, choke at the door. Charge it. Then ICE the remaining two.

Allied towns still treat a 4 a.m. bedroom as sacred ground. A sanctuary shrug is not mercy.

Axel Antonio Espinal Herrera. Polk County. Two more Hondurans in the next house. File the names.

I still clock out on linoleum. I want the porch to belong to the woman who paid for it.

A 77-year-old should not have to sprint for a front door in her own house.

Cartels export the man. Counties inherit the 4 a.m. That is the trade.

Fox printed 24, 77, 4 a.m., and a choke at the door. Argue those nouns.

Convict him. Remove the rest. A bedroom is not a loophole.
