Illegal migrant faked US citizenship to work at militrary contractor for 30 years

Thirty years on a jet-engine floor. $1.4 million in pay. A 2003 removal order still sat in the file.

Summary

  • The New York Post reports Homeland Security arrested Mexican national Alma Patricia Contreras Villafana, 54, of South Los Angeles, on Friday after a more than two-hour standoff at Howmet Aerospace's Torrance factory, where she worked as a machinist. Company officials at first refused to let agents inside. Investigators said she hid in a conference room after a tip.
  • She is charged with five counts of wire fraud, one count of use of a false and forged certificate of naturalization, one count of aggravated identity theft, and one count of false claim to United States citizenship.
  • Court papers say she first secured work at a Howmet subsidiary in 1996 by attesting on a Form I-9 that she was a U.S. citizen. An immigration judge ordered her to leave in 2003. This year she submitted another I-9 with a naturalization number that belonged to another person.
  • Prosecutors said she was paid at least $1,402,459 over three decades. Los Angeles U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli called it alarming that an illegal immigrant who ignored a decades-old removal order worked 30 years at a firm tied to the military. Howmet makes jet-engine and titanium parts, including components used in Lockheed Martin's F-35.

Commentary

A shop dad still smells cutting oil on a Friday and knows a military floor is supposed to start with a real I-9, not a borrowed naturalization number. He did not clock a double so a 2003 removal order could sit while $1.4 million left the till.

1996. 2003. Friday. Two hours behind a conference-room door. The honest household already bought the overtime for the agents. The linoleum in that Torrance aisle still sticks.

Look every working father who still badges into a defense plant in the eye and answer this: if a 2003 order already existed, who still owns the next F-35 floor a fake citizenship file left open?

If a 2003 order sat on an F-35 floor, who still owns the next contractor I-9?

1996 I-9. 2003 order. $1,402,459. Keep the three.

I stood a gate so a jet part still meant a citizen badge. A borrowed number is not a clearance.

Five wire-fraud counts. Forged naturalization. Aggravated identity theft. Print the three.

Allied plants still treat a defense floor as a ledger, not a hide.

Tip. Conference room. Two-hour hold. Essayli. File the four.

I still wipe oil at 2 a.m. I want the next badge to match a real passport.

A fake citizen on a fighter-jet line is not a staffing gap. It is a warning.

A 30-year overstay on an F-35 vendor is a second border around every hangar.

NY Post printed Howmet, Torrance, and $1.4 million. Argue those nouns.

Honor the hold. Audit the I-9 stack. A borrowed certificate is not a souvenir.
