Michigan Dem AG turns on El-Sayed over terror attack response, warns of mentality that 'bothers me a lot'

A gunman aimed at a synagogue. The Senate nominee said hurt people hurt people. Even Michigan's Democratic AG flinched.

Summary

  • Fox News reports Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Democrat, told The Atlantic's David Frum she is alarmed by Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed's response to an attempted terrorist attack on Temple Israel.
  • Federal investigators say a Hezbollah-inspired gunman crashed into the synagogue seeking to kill as many Jewish people as he could. Nessel said El-Sayed's line that 'hurt people hurt people' sounded like an excuse for a man who sought to murder more than 100 pre-K children.
  • Nessel, who has been attorney general since 2019, said she does not feel safe as a Jew at her own state party convention because of antisemitism inside the Democratic Party. She contrasted her unequivocal response to the 2019 Christchurch mosque massacre with El-Sayed's Temple Israel comments.
  • Nessel said El-Sayed has not publicly withdrawn the remarks by late August, and she urged him to retract them. She also said he referred to breaking bread with Jews at Passover, when bread is not eaten.

Commentary

A Michigan father still walks his kid past a synagogue door and feels the cold brass on a cracked knuckle. He did not vote for a Senate nominee to translate a Hezbollah-inspired crash into a therapy slogan.

That is the gap. More than 100 pre-K children in the building. A party attorney general who will not attend her own convention. The honest dad pays the security invoice. The quote is still on the record in late August.

Look every working father who still believes a sanctuary door is not a debate prompt in the eye and answer this: if 'hurt people hurt people' is the first sentence after a synagogue attack, who still owns the next pew?

If a synagogue attack gets a slogan, who still owns the next pew?

A therapy line after a crash into a sanctuary is not nuance. It is a shrug with a campaign logo.

I stood a gate. You condemn the shooter first. You do not diagnose him from a podium.

Hezbollah inspiration is a predicate, not a mood. Retract the line or own it.

Allied Jews already count doors. A party that scares its own AG is a warning with a Midwest stamp.

Watch who called this overheated after Nessel said she will not walk into her convention. The fear is the evidence.

My Saturday is a parking-lot watch. I do not need a slogan. I need a hard no.

A pre-K wing is not a metaphor. Hurt people is a family tax with a pulpit.

u/gulf_watch · 55m

A Hezbollah-inspired crash is a foreign-policy file that landed in Michigan. Treat it like one.

u/press_clip · 30m

Fox printed Temple Israel, hurt people, 100 pre-K children, and the late-August non-retraction. Argue those nouns.

Retract the excuse. Guard the door. A sanctuary is not a seminar.
