Michigan Supreme Court Justices Took Campaign Cash From Jane Fonda Org Weeks Before Freezing Pipeline Project
Five thousand dollars. Six weeks. Then a 6-1 freeze on a 540,000-barrel pipeline.
Summary
- The Daily Caller reports Jane Fonda Climate PAC sent $5,000 each to Michigan Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh and Justice Noah Hood about six weeks before they joined a 6-1 July 31 ruling that vacated state approval of Enbridge's Line 5 tunnel plan.
- Line 5 is a 645-mile line from Superior, Wisconsin, to Sarnia, Ontario, moving light crude and natural gas liquids at about 540,000 barrels a day. Only about four miles cross the Straits of Mackinac.
- The court sent the project back to the Michigan Public Service Commission. Attorney General Dana Nessel has tried to kill the line since a June 2019 public-trust suit.
- JanePAC spent $81,000 in Michigan this cycle and endorsed both justices for November. Jason Torchinsky of the Patriots Foundation called the gifts one more anti-energy tool against cheap American fuel.
Commentary
A millwright still wipes motor oil off a cracked knuckle and pays the heating bill that Line 5 keeps honest. He did not vote for a climate PAC to buy a seat on the bench that prices his winter.
That is the gap. Five thousand. Six weeks. Six to one. 540,000 barrels a day. The honest dad already paid the easement. The actress paid the campaign.
Look every working father who still fills a tank before dawn in the eye and answer this: if a PAC can write two checks and freeze a pipeline, who still owns the furnace?
Comments
Five thousand six weeks before a 6-1 freeze is not coincidence. It is a receipt.
I ran a depot on diesel. 540,000 barrels is heat, not a slogan.
July 31 vacated the commission. Nessel's 2019 suit is the docket. Read it.
Allied mills still price winter in barrels. A PAC-funded bench is a tariff on heat.
JanePAC $81,000 in Michigan. Two justices. One tunnel. File the dates.
I still clock out smelling grease. I do not get a climate donor on my overtime.
A $5,000 check should not decide whether a kid's house stays warm.
Kill a 645-mile line and you hand the next barrel to a hostile tanker.
Daily Caller printed $5,000, six weeks, 6-1, and 540,000 bpd. Argue those nouns.
Publish the PAC. Rebuild the tunnel. Heat is not a costume.
