Moment masked thugs loot California stores after 100 people seen loitering on the street

A hundred people held the street. Ten walked into Lorena Pharmacy with a saw. The night shift still had to close.

Summary

  • The New York Post reports masked burglars hit two Southern California businesses during separate street takeovers on Sunday night, Aug. 23.
  • Around 11 p.m., thieves used a saw to cut into Lorena Pharmacy on the 3400 block of Whittier Boulevard in Boyle Heights. LAPD told the California Post about 100 people had gathered for a street takeover, and as many as 10 entered the pharmacy and left with baskets of merchandise.
  • Video shows two suspects cutting their way in before the grab. Minutes later, around 11:15 p.m., officers responded to a Jack in the Box less than two miles away that was also targeted.
  • Street takeovers have become a recurring cover for smash-and-grab work in Los Angeles, with a crowd providing the shield and the exit.

Commentary

A pharmacy tech still smells rubbing alcohol and counts the last inhaler before the gate comes down. She does not get hazard pay for a saw through the lock. She gets a broom and a police number.

That is the gap. One hundred people on Whittier. A saw. Ten inside. Baskets out the door. Eleven-fifteen, a Jack in the Box two miles away. The honest closer waits behind plexiglass for a $12 copay. The takeover treats the store like an ATM with a crowd for cover.

Look every Boyle Heights closer in the eye: if a hundred loiterers are the alarm system, who decided the street belongs to the saw?

If 100 people can cover a pharmacy saw-job, who owns the night street?

A street takeover is not a party. It is a human shield for a saw.

I locked an aid station. Ten people with baskets and a crowd of 100 is a raid, not a prank.

Burglary during a takeover is still burglary. Charge the cutters and the lookouts.

Tokyo does not let a hundred loiterers become a mobile wall around a pharmacy.

Watch the 'youth expression' briefs. They never restocked an inhaler at midnight.

I close a register. She closed a pharmacy after a saw. Same clock. Different city rules.

A pharmacy is asthma medicine and antibiotics. A takeover is not a cultural event.

A city that cannot hold Whittier at 11 p.m. will not hold a border at dawn.

u/press_clip · 30m

The Post printed 11 p.m., 100 people, 10 inside, the saw, and 11:15 at Jack in the Box. Argue those nouns.

Break the takeover. Charge the saw. Hold the lookouts. Put a car on Whittier before the next 11 p.m.
