NJ mayor demands sanctuary policy rollback after baby killed in crash allegedly involving illegal immigrant

A 9-month-old in a stroller. A July 31 removal order. The mayor wants ICE on the phone.

Summary

  • Fox News reports Jackson Township Mayor Jennifer Kuhn said New Jersey's Immigrant Trust Directive must be rolled back after an unlicensed illegal immigrant allegedly struck a family in a kosher grocery parking lot on Aug. 28, killing a 9-month-old boy and critically injuring the mother and a 5-year-old girl.
  • Authorities say Maria Cobon-Guzman, 20, a Guatemalan national with no driver's license, was charged with manslaughter. Ariadna Lazaro-Flores, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was charged with endangering after allegedly letting Cobon-Guzman drive knowing she had no license.
  • DHS said both women entered during the Biden years. Lazaro-Flores crossed five times in October 2023 and was removed each time. Cobon-Guzman entered once in October 2023, was released unvetted into the interior, and received a removal order on July 31.
  • The 2018 Murphy directive generally bars police from asking immigration status, tipping ICE at release, or sharing certain non-public data for civil enforcement. Gov. Mikie Sherrill signed it into state law in March and in February barred ICE from nonpublic state property without a judicial warrant. Kuhn said if police pull someone over they cannot call ICE, and that condolences are no longer enough.

Commentary

A Jackson night stocker still smells cold linoleum and stares at a stroller wheel that should not be the last line between a 9-month-old and a July 31 order. He did not pay Ocean County tax so a sanctuary memo could outrun a phone call.

July. Thirty-one. Then August. Twenty-eight. Five prior removals on the other seat. The honest mom already buckled the baby. The got-away kept the keys.

Look every working father who still walks a grocery lot after dark in the eye and answer this: if a removal order can lose a parking lot, who still wants the next cop barred from calling ICE?

If a July 31 removal order can lose an Aug. 28 parking lot, who still wants cops barred from calling ICE?

9-month-old. Stroller. Cobon-Guzman 20. July 31 order. That is a sanctuary receipt.

I stood a lot so a kid would come home. Let the cop call ICE. Do not wait on a warrant theater.

Lazaro-Flores five October 2023 removals. Murphy 2018. Sherrill March statute. Publish the four.

Allied towns still let a traffic stop become a detainer. A gag on the radio is a bill.

Kuhn. Immigrant Trust. February state-property bar. File the directive next to the stroller.

I still mop a grocery aisle at 1 a.m. I want the next unlicensed driver on a plane, not in my lot.

A baby in a kosher lot should not die for a 2018 memo. Roll it back. Call the agency.

A released interior case with a July order is a second border at the curb. The first release should have been the last.

Fox printed Kuhn, July 31, five crossings, and the March statute. Argue those nouns.

Repeal the gag. Restore the ICE call. A visitor who kills a baby is not a neighbor.
