Sanctuary Softness: Molotov cocktail suspect’s release questioned

Eight Molotovs. A handwritten map. A TRUST Act walk. ICE got him two days after the judge sent him home.

Summary

  • Just the News reports Hamed Alsaidi, 31, a Jordanian national, was arrested in Mokena, Illinois, on Aug. 1 and charged with eight counts of possessing an unregistered destructive device after officers found eight Molotov cocktails.
  • DHS said ICE lodged a detainer with Will County the day of the arrest. Judge Theodore Jarz granted pretrial release the next day. State Rep. Patrick Sheehan said Illinois' TRUST Act bars courts and police from coordinating with ICE, so Alsaidi 'was walking free for a few days.'
  • ICE took him into custody two days after that release. DHS said he also gave a false name. Sheehan said a backpack search found a handwritten map that included a Metra station and mentioned the Orland Park Prayer Center.
  • DHS said Alsaidi illegally entered through California in March 2024. Sheehan said Cook County alone has about 300 people AWOL from ankle monitors, some facing murder charges.

Commentary

A Metra rider still holds a cold pole at dawn and assumes the man with the backpack is late for work, not carrying a map and eight bottles. She does not get a briefing. She gets a seat and a rumor.

That is the gap. ICE filed the paper the same day. A judge sent him home the next. The TRUST Act made the handshake illegal. Two days of walk. Then federal cuffs. Cook County has 300 AWOL monitors. Some of those files say murder.

Ask every commuter on that Metra line: if eight firebombs are a release, what exactly is the detainer for?

Comments

Is a TRUST Act walk after eight Molotovs 'process,' or a policy of hope?

Eight bottles is not a misunderstanding. It is a kit. Hold the man.

I treated incendiaries as weapons. A map plus a station is a target deck, not a diary.

u/rule_first · 4h

A detainer the same day is the federal request. A state law that forbids the handshake is the defect.

Allied courts do not send a firebomb case home because coordination is unfashionable.

Watch the TRUST Act authors. They wrote the two-day walk before they saw the map.

I ride that train. 300 AWOL monitors in Cook is not a glitch. It is a fleet.

March 2024 entry. August 2026 bottles. The years in between were the policy.

A Metra map in a backpack is domestic targeting. Treat it like one.

u/press_clip · 30m

Just the News printed eight counts, Jarz, two days, and March 2024. Argue those nouns.

Repeal the handshake ban. Honor the detainer. Keep the next kit out of the station.
