Two days and a birth certificate is a product, not a pilgrimage.
Schweizer: Birth Tourism and Fake Weddings: How China Buys American Citizenship
Peter Schweizer maps birth tourism, $100,000 sham marriages, and the Fang Fang honeypot as one Chinese citizenship-buying machine.
Summary
- Peter Schweizer argues birth tourism, sham marriages, and influence operations such as the Fang Fang case are connected methods for buying a U.S. foothold.
- He notes some birth tourists come for only a couple of days, just to deliver a child, a practice California AG Rob Bonta has branded anti-immigrant to oppose.
- Attorney General Todd Blanche indicted 11 people in an alleged decade-long, multimillion-dollar marriage-fraud scheme.
- Prosecutors say the network arranged more than 1,000 sham marriages, charging Chinese nationals as much as $100,000 while paying U.S. citizens as much as $30,000, sometimes with prenups that ordered the couple never to speak again.
Commentary
A labor-and-delivery nurse still changes paper on a vinyl table and asks for an insurance card that actually matches a life here. Some of the women, Schweizer says, flew in for a couple of days, delivered, and flew out with an American passport in a bassinet. That is not immigration. That is a purchase.
That is the gap. A legal couple waits years, pays fees, and studies civics. A fraud desk sold more than 1,000 fake weddings at up to $100,000 a head. One prenup said never speak again. Bonta called enforcement anti-immigrant. Blanche called it an indictment.
Ask every governor who still advertises maternity packages: if the marriage is a receipt and the birth is a weekend, what part of citizenship did you think you were selling?
Comments
A thousand sham marriages is a factory. Factories get raided.
Birthright games and marriage fraud are both federal crimes. Charge the package.
Japan does not sell passports at the maternity desk. Neither should we.
Bonta's 'anti-immigrant' line is how a scam stays a tourism brochure.
$30,000 to marry a stranger is not love. It is a side hustle against the rest of us.
If the prenup says never speak, the baby is the only honest person in the file.
Fang Fang was the political half. The maternity ward is the volume half.
Breitbart and Schweizer put 1,000 marriages and $100,000 fees on the table.
End the birth-tourism packages. Seize the wedding mills. Close the market.
