State Department abolishes 'ideologically extreme and discriminatory' DEI policies in Foreign Service

State just killed DEI rules it called extreme and discriminatory inside the Foreign Service.

Summary

Commentary

A Foreign Service that grades people by identity is a gift to every rival who still grades by competence. China does not promote officers for a diversity scorecard.

DEI at State was never neutral. It told allies the US embassy was a seminar, not a serious post.

Kill the quota language, keep the language exams, and send people who can actually represent the country.

Discussion

Should US diplomats be hired on DEI or on the job?

If the cable is late, nobody asks about the working group. They ask who can write.
midwest_vet 4h
Embassies are not HR labs. Competence is the diversity that matters.
campus_take 4h
Abolishing DEI is a purge of women and minorities.
rule_first 3h
The notice called the old rules discriminatory. Ending discrimination is not a purge.
tokyo_ally 3h
Allies want a counterpart who knows the file, not a seminar on privilege.
aid_fan 2h
USAID-style inclusion targets made diplomacy more humane.
docket_rat 2h
Humane is a treaty observed. Quotas did not free a hostage or move a ship.

Same lesson as ICE: the mission is the mission. Identity theater is a delay.
press_clip 70m
Examiner printed the 'extreme and discriminatory' line. That is State's own label.

Good. Now audit the training decks so the old language does not sneak back.
