H-1B in a fourth-grade room is not a STEM emergency. It is a pipeline.
Texas Gov. Abbott Wants Ban on H-1B Migrant Foreigners from State Teaching Jobs
Abbott wants H-1B teachers out of Texas public schools after Austin ISD took Qatari money and imported the instructors to match.
Summary
- Gov. Greg Abbott is proposing a full ban on H-1B visas for foreign workers in Texas public-school teaching jobs.
- He also wants to bar Texas schools from accepting foreign gifts, money, or property and from contracting with foreign governments or entities.
- Austin ISD took money from Qatar for Arabic language and cultural instruction and imported teachers from Qatar on H-1B. Other schools launched similar programs with Chinese backing.
- Abbott said student minds should be shaped by policies approved by state lawmakers and that Texas cannot condone quiet indoctrination in the classroom. The Texas Public Policy Foundation backed the call.
Commentary
A fourth-grade teacher in Lubbock still buys her own markers and wipes glitter off linoleum after the last bus. She did not apply for a Qatari grant. Austin ISD did. Then it imported the instructors on H-1B so the grant would have a face in front of the whiteboard.
That is the gap. Local parents wait in a gym for a bond vote they can see. Foreign ministries write checks the school board files as 'culture.' China has the same playbook. Abbott is asking the legislature to end the gift, the contract, and the visa that staffs the lesson.
Ask every Austin trustee who signed the Qatari paper: if the money is not free, whose child is the product?

Pass the ban. Audit the grants. Put Texans at the front of the classroom.
