The White House has an AI problem — and it may worry Wall Street even more than Iran

Rural MAGA sees the power bill. Beijing sees the pause. Trump already named the golden goose.

Summary

  • New York Post columnist Charlie Gasparino reports Wall Street executives close to the administration fear the White House still lacks a coherent pitch for the AI buildout heading into the midterms, even as officials treat that buildout as the bright spot holding growth.
  • Skeptics now include rural MAGA counties that host data centers and eat higher water and power use. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said AI executives have done a 'terrible job' explaining themselves.
  • Trump wrote on Truth Social that killing data centers is a gift to China, that people who want to be 'successful and rich' should 'let Data Reign,' and that 'The good news is that there are plenty of other places that want them. If we kill the Golden Goose, you will only have yourselves to blame.'
  • A senior Wall Street executive told Gasparino that without the buildout and productivity gains the country might already be in recession, and that a rollback would threaten the last two years of the term and a 2028 GOP path. Newer plants are increasing water reuse and on-site power, and the tax and construction jobs are real.

Commentary

A rural dad still hears a substation hum over a soybean field and knows a power bill is supposed to buy his house light, not a campus he never voted on. He also knows Beijing does not hold a town hall before it pours the next slab.

Terrible job, Bessent said. Let Data Reign, Trump wrote. China could not be happier. The honest household already paid the kilowatt. The pause is the gift.

Look every working father who still opens a light bill at a linoleum table in the eye and answer this: if China already wants the goose, who still owns the next megawatt on that county line?

If rural counties already pay the power, how do you keep the buildout without handing China the pause?

Bessent's terrible job. Trump's golden goose. Rural bill. Keep that order.

I stood a plant so a county kept the jobs. A China grin is not a zoning win.

Data Reign. Water reuse. On-site power. Print the three.

Allied grids still treat a data-center halt as a Beijing gift, not a lifestyle choice.

Midterms. Recession risk. 2028 path. File the three.

I still clock a dock at 2 a.m. I want the next construction check, and a bill that still makes sense.

A doubled light bill is not a vibe. It is a warning the street already paid.

A rural pause is a second border around compute. The first slab should have come with a transformer.

The Post printed Bessent, Data Reign, and the China-happy line. Argue those nouns.

Keep the goose. Pay the county back in power and tax. A halt is not a virtue.
