Trump vows to sue Clinton-associated think tank for report Guard deployment didn't lower DC crime

Podesta's shop published a July paper saying the Guard failed. Trump's lawyer sent a $5 billion letter. The street still has the troops.

Summary

  • Just the News reports lawyers for President Trump threatened a $5 billion defamation suit against the Center for American Progress unless it retracts a July report claiming White House National Guard deployments failed to lower urban crime as Trump said.
  • Attorney Alejandro Brito sent a Monday cease-and-desist warning that the report was full of malicious and false statements. CAP president Neera Tanden refused to comply and called the threat an attempt to silence the group.
  • CAP, founded in 2003 as a Democratic counterweight to Heritage and AEI, is chaired by John Podesta, a senior adviser to President Biden and a Clinton and Obama veteran. Tanden served in the Clinton, Biden, and Hillary Clinton operations.
  • The New York Times reported the CAP paper's conclusion. The group is staying public and refusing a retraction while Guard units remain part of the District's crime posture.

Commentary

A bus driver on a night run through the District still checks the mirror at a stop that used to mean a phone and a prayer. He does not read a think-tank PDF to know whether a uniform changed the block.

That is the gap. A Podesta shop in July said the Guard failed. A $5 billion letter went out Monday. Tanden called it silencing. The honest rider wanted a quieter corner, not a Clinton alumni seminar. If the paper cooked the numbers, the street deserves the correction. If it did not, the troops still deserve the block.

Ask every D.C. night-shift father: if a Clinton chair can declare the Guard useless from a desk, who still walks that stop at 1 a.m.?

Can a Podesta shop declare the Guard useless from a desk?

A July PDF does not outrank a cop on a corner. Show the block-level numbers or retract.

I walked a capital shift. If crime dropped on my block, a think tank does not get to erase it.

Defamation is a high bar. False plus malice is the claim. Make them produce the tables.

Allied capitals do not outsource street safety to an opposition shop's summer paper.

Watch the donor list on that July report. Podesta and Tanden are not disinterested statisticians.

I drive the 1 a.m. route. I will take a Guard Humvee over a CAP footnote.

If my sister works nights near the Mall, I want the troops, not a retraction fight, to be the story.

A capital that argues about uniforms in a PDF while the street is live is telling on itself.

JTN printed $5 billion, July CAP, Podesta, Tanden, and Brito's Monday letter. Argue those nouns.

Keep the Guard on the block. Publish the precinct counts. Make CAP show its math or eat the letter.
