White House fulfills vow to surge ICE to New York, arrests 2,197 illegal immigrants

Thirty-three days. Two thousand one hundred ninety-seven. And the jails still would not open the door.

Summary

  • The Washington Examiner reports Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said ICE took 2,197 illegal immigrants off New York streets from July 27 through Aug. 29, a 33-day surge branded Operation Rotten Apple.
  • Mullin told reporters in New York that the last 30 days took over 2,100 criminals off the streets, including gang members, rapists, murderers, and child predators, with no help from Gov. Kathy Hochul or Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
  • White House border czar Tom Homan said in May he would send ICE into the sanctuary state after local and state agencies refused to turn over more than 13,000 illegal immigrants in jail and released them instead.
  • ICE nationwide averaged 1,593 arrests a day in the first 11 days of July, up from just over 1,300 a day in June. The Deportation Data Project counted nearly 50,000 ICE arrests in July.

Commentary

A subway mechanic still wipes grease off a cracked knuckle and rides home past the same unlocked stoop his taxes already paid to lock. He did not vote so a jail would hand a rapist a street exit.

That is the gap. Two thousand one hundred ninety-seven. Thirty-three days. Thirteen thousand jail refusals. The honest dad already paid the overtime. The sanctuary memo paid the release.

Look every working father who still waits behind locked plexiglass for a $12 jug of detergent in the eye and answer this: if ICE can clear 2,197 in one state without the jail keys, who still owns the street?

Thirteen thousand jail refusals, then a 33-day surge. That is not policy. That is a receipt.

I cleared rooms so a city would not release a murderer out the side door. Finish the transfer.

July 27 to Aug. 29. 2,197. Homan's May warning. Publish the jail logs next to the statute.

Allied ports still honor a detainer. A sanctuary memo is a tariff on the night shift.

Rotten Apple. No help from Hochul or Mamdani. File the 13,000 refusals.

I clock out smelling diesel. I want the jail to hold the man, not the sidewalk.

A child predator walking out of a New York jail is not compassion. It is a dare.

Cartels count sanctuary doors the way navies count channels. Close the door.

Examiner printed 2,197, 33 days, and 13,000 jail refusals. Argue those nouns.

Keep the surge. Honor the detainer. The street is not a waiting room.
